Hosting our first Thanksgiving

Cory and I made a bold decision. As newlyweds living in our new house for only 3 months, we decided to host both of our families for Thanksgiving dinner. Despite our lack of experience, we had so much fun and by the end of the night I truly felt thankful for all the Lord has blessed Cory and I with.Thanksgiving pies

Our sweet neighbor offered to take family photos of us all, so we dressed up and headed to the back yard. Prior to taking this photo I sent everyone a color palette that they needed to stick to. I got made fun of for this, but after seeing the pictures I know everyone knew in their hearts that the color palette was beneficial. (Even though I’m the only one that chose to wear gold haha!)

Hosting has always been an interest of mine, but I never really did it prior to having a home of my own. My favorite part was coming up with the menu and then cooking what seemed like a week’s worth of food. Thanks to all the women in the family, we were able to pull off a Thanksgiving feast while the guys watched football. (Of course!)

My husband loves hot chocolate so we decided to get a little creative with our very own hot chocolate bar. I used our Letter Folk Co. board to add some fun song lyrics and kept the rest pretty simple. Everyone loved it and I can’t wait to do something similar for Christmas!

(I’d be lying if I didn’t say half of my motivation for this hot chocolate bar was wanting to take a cute picture of it)
As first timers, Cory and I were pretty pleased with how the day turned out. I hope you had an equally great Thanksgiving, making memories like we did. As I reflect on what I’m most thankful for in this season of my life, my answer is easy: the gift of marriage and my amazing husband. What are you most thankful for this year?

  1. I so enjoy reading about how the Lord has blessed and guides others and I can't wait to see the awesome ways he guides you through this blog! Being a teenage girl, I am encouraged by “older-young people” (you get what I mean;) living for the Lord and being obedient to the call He has placed on their life! Praying for you as you begin this blog and I can't wait to read more!

By the way, I love the color palette! My family thinks I'm crazy when I plan out my pictures but hey if your gonna take a picture it might as well be a good one, right?! 🙂

  2. I love that y'all took on hosting for both your families even after just setting up your home together! And I think I'm gonna take the idea of sending my family a visual color palette next time we take family photos! And I'm also gonna use the hot cocoa bar at some point too cause it's my favorite hot drink! 🙂

  3. Thank you so much for reading and your prayers!! I'm so glad you found your way here! The color palette was the best idea, even if my family was like, “Is she serious?” Haha!!!
