Cory and I just got back from Cancun, Mexico and we had the best time at Nizuc Resort & Spa. It’s located right on the coast of the Caribbean and was seriously the perfect place to get some amazing R & R. I’d been to Mexico a couple of times, but only on cruises, and only for a couple of hours each time. So, this was Cory and my first time staying overnight in Mexico, and with some of the news surrounding the country lately, I was a little bit nervous.
Honestly though, it was incredible. Our entire resort property was beautiful, the food was amazing, and the service was top notch. You know you’re staying somewhere nice when people who shouldn’t know your name refer to you as Mr. & Mrs. Cotton. Seriously, it was so impressive. Haha! Nizuc was only 10 minutes from the airport, which made it super easy & convenient once we landed and found our driver.
The property had 6 restaurants, 4 of which we tried. All of which were delicious.
- Indochine– This was an Asian restaurant and it was one of my favorite meals of the trip. We had an amazing sushi roll that was wrapped in a plantain (similar to a banana), which was so unique, but surprisingly delicious!
- Terra Nostra– We came here for our first dinner and it didn’t disappoint. They served homemade pastas & wood fired pizzas. Cory said this was his favorite meal! This restaurant also had an upstairs balcony lounge/bar area, that overlooked the ocean. It was such a cool and relaxing spot to sit and have a drink.
- Cafe De La Playa– This was one of the only restaurants opened for breakfast and we had some really yummy pancakes and bacon.
- La Punta Grill & Lounge– We came here for lunch as soon as we arrived at the resort and had the best guacamole! It was seriously so good & fresh. We loved it so much that we probably ordered guacamole at least another 5 times throughout our stay. Haha! It was essentially the same guacamole everywhere that you ordered it, and it was so good each time. We also came here for dinner on our last night. I had lobster, which is a must for me when I go to a nice seafood restaurant. It was amazing.
We also ordered room service and poolside service multiple times and the food was just as good!
The resort had 2 beaches, but we spent most of our time at the 2 pools! They were both infinity pools and were always so calm & the perfect spots to read my Magnolia Journal. Since we went late in November, and during the middle of the week, the resort was not crowded at all. It started to fill up a bit more when we left to go home on Thursday though. I was happy we went when we did because there were always beachside beds, pool chairs, and dinner reservations available.
Cory and I looked into going on a few different excursions during our stay, but ultimately decided against them, and instead stayed on the resort property the entire time. We were happy with our decision and felt like we had plenty to do without leaving Nizuc. On our last full day in Cancun, we booked a spa appointment where we both had massages and I also had a facial. It was extremely nice and was a great way to end our trip.
If you’re ever planning a trip to Mexico, I would highly recommend Cancun! I’m sure there are a ton of great hotel choices, but we absolutely loved Nizuc Resort & Spa. Check out my beach packing list to see all off my beach essentials!
